Details of Disappearance
Fred was last seen at his home on Wandering Way between High School Road and Girls School Road on the far west side of Indianapolis, Indiana on November 22, 2019. He has never been heard from again. Prior to his disappearance, he reportedly told a family member he was going on an out-of-state hunting trip with friends. He was not reported missing until December 27, over a month after his disappearance.

Fred's cellular phone continued to be active and never left west Indianapolis until suddenly it went dead in mid-January. His relatives got text messages from the phone after his disappearance, saying Fred had extended his hunting trip, but they don't think the messages were written by Farmer. The texts included correct punctuation and emojis; Farmer's usual texts often had run-on sentences without punctuation, and he didn't use emojis.

After Fred went missing, his credit cards were used in Indianapolis and also in Carmel, Plainfield, and Zionsville, Indiana, to make purchases at liquor stores, department stores and restaurants. By mid-January, $5,000 in charges had been accumulated. Someone also changed the contact information on Fred's bank accounts to his son Jeremy's email address and cellular phone number.

When questioned by police, Jeremy said he'd last seen his father in early November, before Fred went on a hunting trip with his gear, including his rifles and crossbow. However, police later learned that Jeremy had pawned his father's crossbow. He allegedly had a history of trying to steal money from his father, and they had reportedly had an argument about money shortly before Fred disappeared. Fred had told friends that it he caught Jeremy trying to steal from him again, he would press charges against him. When investigators confronted Jeremy about his using his father's bank account and credit cards, Jeremy refused to say anything about it and checked himself into a hospital.

In February 2021, over a year after Fred's disappearance, Jeremy was arrested and charged with his murder. A photo of Jeremy is posted with this case summary. Two witnesses told police that he had bragged about shooting his father to death and hiding his body in a freezer. Security footage showed him visiting a hardware store after Fred missing; he purchased a 96-gallon trash can, germicidal bleach, plastic drop clothes and latex gloves, allegedly paying for the items with Fred's debit card.

Authorities have not yet recovered Fred's remains, but foul play is suspected in his case due to the circumstances involved.
